Causes

Effects without causes don’t exist. Objects don’t move by themselves. Things don’t ‘just happen’. Everything can be explained by some prior thing. Exceptions are by definition miracles and miracles don’t exist.

Agreed?

But if every cause has prior causes of its own and new causes don’t just appear, then how far back do these causal chains reach?

All the way back of course…

All the way back to the big 💥

What does that very simple logic tell us? It tells us that whatever we do or think or say also has prior causes that lie outside of us. But then how could we have done differently than we did? How could we have broken that causal chain or started a new causal chain? How could we have free will?

We couldn’t.

It’s a nonsense idea.
